1 Timothy 4:12
12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
Hey y’all! So 1 Timothy 4:12 is the verse that I am going to be basing today’s blog off of! I was reading my Bible this morning and it really stuck out, so I took it as a sign that I needed to discuss it.
The beginning of the verse talks about not letting anyone despise you for your youth. I feel like this happens a lot when adults look at teenagers. Some adults don’t think teens are capable of being true disciples of Christ. Teens of the world have a reputation of being reckless, careless, and wild. However, we are not teens of the world. We are teens of Christ! So, our reputations should be a little different than other people our age. We need to be kind, respectful, caring, and reflections of Jesus.
The next part talks about being an example in speech. Being an example in speech can be very hard. What sort of things do we talk about, and how do we say them? Do we use vulgar language, or do we glorify God with every word that comes out of our mouths? We can be an example of speech by simply sharing The Gospel! You can sing worship songs, post verses on social media, and even write a blog ( hehe that’s one of my favorite ways to glorify Him if you can’t tell by now).
Then, the verse says in conduct. In conduct sort of explains itself! We must have a good demeanor with how we act and how we think. We have to be good y’all! So avoid those parties on the weekends, because having sleepovers with friends is much more fulfilling, I promise! Make true bonds with people over Christ, not over drugs and alcohol.
Next, it says in love. Every single thing we do in life MUST be in love. Love changes every aspect of your life. Love brings you closer to others, and more importantly to Christ. One of my favorite verses that I made sure to memorize is Colossians 3:12–14, which says:
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
This totally covers the aspect of love in the verse I’m going over!
The next part says in faith. This basically means that we need to totally serve God with 100% of our hearts! Don’t be afraid, just have faith. Be bold servants of Christ, and trust in Him always.
The final part of the verse says in purity. In purity means that we are serving Him with intentions that truly come from our heart. We shouldn’t be serving Him just to seem better or more holy than anyone else. We need to be transparent Christians. Be the type of person that doesn’t have anything anyone can hold against them. Put your faith out in the open, and if you made a mistake, admit it! Strive to have a pure faith and purely serve Him!
We can all make positive impacts on the world through our faith in Jesus Christ. Teens have amazing platforms to share His goodness! We have social media, school, and our friend groups. Don’t wait to share His glory, start NOW. Go on mission trips, talk about God with your friends, get into The Word. Do anything that nourishes your spiritual life.
I hope y’all have a great evening! I have really been working planning my Bible study the past couple of days, and so far, I have ten wonderful young women who are going to be worshipping with me once a week. I will keep y’all updated about how my bible study planning is going, and if you want to join in just let me know! All girls are welcome, don’t be shy!
