On social media, we tend to try to look perfect. We use the perfect filters, caption our pictures with the perfect hashtags, have the funniest tweets… etc. I totally do all of these things! We want everyone else to view our lives as perfect. Like for real in the selfie above I probably spent like ten minutes editing it until it was ” good enough “.
I really am going to strive to change this about myself. I feel like so many of us Christian teens try to appear perfect to everyone else. We all want to look like we have the perfect faith, perfect sermon notes, and perfect verses for our Instagram captions or bio.
BUT here’s the catch… a real faith with Jesus isn’t perfect. So how can we reach others through our social media? By showing that our faith can be messy! It isn’t always easy. Show your lowest points and your highest. Don’t make others want to be just like you. Make others want to be just like Jesus.
We see posts on insta of people’s ” Jesus time ” or cool scriptures. We see tweets or read blogs about God and they have us nodding in agreement. But how often do we truly soak the words in? Do we just double tap, or do we think about what the words truly being preached mean. Apply the words or pictures that inspire you in your real life.
Faith with Jesus Christ is REAL. Sometimes it’s hard or uncomfortable, but it is always in action. So, my challenge to you is to focus more on how you are growing in your faith instead of how you are portraying yourself to others. I know that sometimes I really struggle with this, and I’m sure others do as well.
2 Corinthians 5:6-7
So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.
I hope you all had a great Monday, and make sure to get your Jesus time in today! – Camille
